The Broken Were Drawn To Him

Series Title:

Would Jesus Fit Into Your Church?

Recently I read the following thought: We are all broken people living together in a broken world.

The truth that we're all broken is undeniable. The reasons for our brokenness don't have to be huge, tragic or devastating, even though sometimes they turn out to be. Brokenness comes in all sizes and shapes, at the most inopportune times. When it comes, we often bury the pain and sadness somewhere deep inside, where it simmers and stews and gnaws at our peace, faith and joy. In the process we become even more broken, usually by becoming judgmental of the brokenness that we see in others.

Have you detected how repulsed religious people are by brokenness? If not have a chat with one who readily admits their brokenness to get a sense of how they have detected the repulsion. To religiously oriented minds brokenness and waste are synonymous. Religious people always have a distinct preference for orderliness, decorum and predictably prudent behavior. We never overlook an opportunity to condemn those whose lives are messy, broken and seemingly out of control. Not so with Jesus. Jesus is at ease with broken people. But those who are broken and don't know it or refuse to admit it provoke Jesus, especially when they begin attacking others.

And so to ask if Jesus would fit into your church is a fitting question to explore since broken people were drawn to him. Join us on Sunday as we consider this question more deeply. Broken people are especially welcome.
