What He Wants You To Do
Would Jesus Fit Into Your Church?
In Mark 14 regarding the woman who had anointed him Jesus said, "She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial."
The significance that Jesus assigns to this story must never be dismissed, ignored or forgotten. Regardless of her intentions or our appraisal of its importance, Jesus received her gift as an act of worship and elevated and honored her for it, declaring that wherever the gospel is preached this beautiful act would also be told in memory of her.
The message of this story is clear: Doing what you are able to do is essential. Jesus wants his followers to do what they can. The question is whether we can be content with that? Whenever I ponder my legacy, how I hope to be remembered, it's much more grand than: He did what he could.
If we are honest most of us would have to admit that whenever we consider how we'd like our life to be remembered, an avalanche of superlatives floods our imagination: remarkable, amazing, grand, impressive, magnificent, noble, handsome and striking are but a few. But Jesus desires something a little more simple. His desire is that we would do what we can.
And so the question: Would Jesus fit into your church since he wants us to learn to be content to do what we can?
