What Is The Church?
Would Jesus Fit Into Your Church?
Would Jesus fit into your church?
This is the question that we’ve been considering and investigating over the last while. It’s an important question on several levels because in order to answer this question there are other questions that arise. For example as you ask yourself if Jesus would fit into your church you will come face to face with the question:What is the purpose of the church? This is a very basic and fundamental question second only to the question:What is the church?
You can’t know what the purpose of something is, if you first don’t know what it is. For example how could you know that a fish hook is for catching fish if you don’t know that it’s a fishing hook? And if you don't correctly understand this it can be a problem because if you that think it’s some kids toy, you’re going to come to some very wrong conclusions about how to use it.
And so we need to ask the question: “What is the church?”
According to the way we use the word "church" a solid argument could be made that the church is a location, an organization, a social status identified by a style of clothing. But when Jesus said in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it”, was that what He was talking about?
Join us as we bore into this question in an attempt to discover better what is the church that Jesus would fit into.
