The Gift Of Memory
To simply remember may be the most important thing you ever remember to do.
The power of our memories must never be ignored, denied or taken for granted. In everyone's life there are experiences so rich and profound that even before our minds can consciously process all the reasons for our reactions and emotions, our memories are interacting with our present realities to inform us of how we should feel and react in a certain moment.
Our memory is one of the largest contributors to our identity and sense of being. Our sorrows and joys, our feelings of anguish and contentment, do not merely rely on the events of our lives, but also on the ways we remember them.
Is it any wonder then that God constantly urges us to remember? From the Bible's opening words, telling us how the world appeared, right up to its closing words, telling us how creation will one day become new, much of what the Bible insists on can be summed up in a simple word: Remember.
God longs for us to remember that our identity is summed up in this simple affirmation: "I belong to my lover, and his desire is for me." (Song of Songs 7:10)T he scandalous love of the invisible God is made clearly visible in Jesus who says, "Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you." (John 15:4)
Join us as we consider this gift of memory we have been given.
